Klepierre drives sustainability in its commercial assets with a comprehensive carbon footprint strategy

Klepierre is a leading European group in shopping centre management and in implementing strategies to reduce its carbon footprint. With more than 100 shopping centres in 12 countries, the company is committed to a business model aligned with sustainability and operational efficiency.

Leveraging its strategy of focusing on assets in fast-growing metropolitan areas, it follows a targeted growth policy through expansions and refurbishments designed to consolidate the prominence of each shopping centre as a regional leader.

Driven by its commitment to decarbonisation and sustainability as a management model, Klepierre decided to implement a plan to reduce its GHG emissions, lower its dependence on fossil fuels, and better cope with major fluctuations in energy costs. The benefits of this strategy have a direct impact on the operational efficiency of its assets, as well as on the reduction of GHG emissions.

Ineria Management provided consultancy and support to Klepierre for the precise quantification, reporting and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in its its portfolio of commercial assets in Spain.,as wellas the offsetting of emissions through the Klepierre Forest project in Spain

Ineria assisted the client with an ad hoc service, based on an initial stage of analysis and precise quantification of GHG emissions for the shopping centre portfolio in Spain, which is continuously updated. This analysis served as a starting point or baseline for establishing an Emissions Reduction/Offset Plan in coordination with the organisation’s policies and guidelines (ISO 50001, ISO 14001, Corporate Social Responsibility, etc.). Subsequently, the results were registered in the Official Carbon Footprint Registry of the Spanish Office for Climate Change (OECC).

From there, Ineria proposed a carbon offsetting project to Klepierre using the different existing mechanisms, including credit-based offsetting in a national project called the “Klepierre Forest” and management with the OECC to obtain the “Compenso” seal.
