BREEAM ES Excellent Certification | Storage Building

In Móstoles, Madrid, an ambitious project emerges, redefining sustainability standards in the construction sector.

The industrial storage building, owned by STOREMORE SL, has become a benchmark by achieving BREEAM ES certification with an Excellent rating, standing out for its commitment to energy efficiency and minimal environmental footprint.

Client needs and initial challenges

STOREMORE, aware of the importance of sustainability, set out to certify its storage building by maximizing BREEAM scores with the most efficient use of resources possible.

The client aimed for an Excellent rating and faced significant challenges, as the project started with a very basic structure.

Our consulting team engaged in a close collaboration with the design team, conducting numerous specialized meetings to review each type of installation, ensuring compliance with the rigorous BREEAM standards.

Following the successful collaboration between STOREMORE and INERIA MANAGEMENT, and in alignment with their commitment to sustainability, evaluations are now being conducted under the BREEAM In-Use scheme for their existing buildings.

Achieving BREEAM ES Excellent Certification

The consultancy service provided was comprehensive, covering everything from design advisory to ensure compliance with BREEAM requirements to acting as a BREEAM Assessor. Through a collaborative effort, the project successfully achieved Excellent certification in the design phase.

The results reflect a strong commitment to sustainability:

  1. Green Roof: half of the building’s roof now hosts native, low-water-demand plant species, promoting biodiversity and reducing environmental impact.
  2. Rainwater management: a rainwater collection tank was implemented to reduce runoff, contributing to the sustainable management of water resources.
  3. Renewable energy generation: with the installation of photovoltaic panels, the building not only aims for energy self-sufficiency but, according to the CEEE, is expected to achieve zero energy consumption and CO₂ emissions in the office area operations.

The storage building in Móstoles stands out as a model for sustainability in construction.

STOREMORE has proven that even in projects with simple foundations, innovation and dedication can transform a space into a benchmark for efficiency and environmental commitment.

This achievement reflects not only STOREMORE’s vision but also the construction industry’s ability to drive change towards more sustainable and environmentally conscious practices.
