Hotel Le Meridien, Barcelona
The challenge of BREEAM In-Use recertification in a hotel with history
The Hotel Le Meridien, located in the heart of Barcelona, has renewed its BREEAM ES In-Use certification, consolidating its position as a benchmark for hotel sustainability in Spain. This milestone reaffirms its commitment to energy efficiency and environmental care in the building’s day-to-day management.
This achievement reflects its firm commitment to energy efficiency and environmental protection, embedding sustainable best practices into the hotel’s daily management.
Strategy for BREEAM ES In-Use recertification
Years after becoming the first certified building, the Hotel Le Méridien team faced a new challenge: achieving BREEAM ES In-Use recertification, adapting its processes to current standards without losing its character.
To do so, they turned to INERIA Management as their sustainability consultancy, with the aim of ensuring compliance with the technical requirements and optimizing both the building’s environmental performance and its operational management.
Our consultancy: strategy, assessment and support
At INERIA, we approached the process with an end-to-end method:
-
Preliminary feasibility assessment: we analyzed the potential rating level based on the building’s current condition.
-
Tailored action plan: we developed a roadmap with clear recommendations to improve environmental performance and management.
-
Support throughout the recertification process: we collected, structured and analyzed the required documentation, ensuring efficient management aligned with the criteria of the BREEAM ES In-Use scheme.
Key project achievements
Thanks to the joint effort and the implementation of the proposed improvements, the Hotel Le Méridien achieved BREEAM certification once again, consolidating its position as a benchmark for sustainability in the Spanish hotel sector.
This case shows that it is possible to maintain high standards of quality, comfort and hospitality while promoting responsible management committed to the environment.
